LIFE IS SHORT

22,265...

A human lifetime is extremely short in the grand scheme of an entire (infinite?) universe. I often think about how short life is to spur me on if i feel slightly off track. As in the above number 22,265 i decided to do a quick calculation which was after my birthday this year, how many days have i got until im a hundred years old?. Now that doesn't seem a very long time to me when put into days plus the highly likely fact i might not get anywhere near 100 years old. So, not knowing how long we have left in this lifetime we should really concentrate on living a good life with good people, more laughter, more fun and more doing whatever makes us feel good. I'm not being morbid i'm being realistic, old death and his scythe will come knocking.

WORK HARD, BREAK HARD...

There's a saying that if we work really hard then we can 'break' (rest and play) hard. I understand working hard at something you enjoy but the majority of us are going to jobs that don't inspire us and practically turn us into mindless zombies where we all fantasize about our next holiday or just counting down the hours and minutes so we can escape the mental 'prison' we feel trapped in. Fast forward years later and you realize you've been working hard at a job(s) where the harder you worked you only profited the company bosses while you might be lucky to get a tiny pay rise that barely covers the costs of inflation. I've seen so many people put in crazy weekly overtime hours for the good of the company, year upon year only to be laid off in what seems to me based entirely on not constantly kissing the managements backside. You see we are social creatures on a scale of introverted to extroverted personalities with job environments that better suit certain individuals over others.

HOORAY RETIREMENT = PLAYTIME...?

Shouldn't this be the case, all those years spent working, you may have a house paid off now, savings tucked away or neither, either way, now is supposed to be your time where you can pick up those old hobbies that you just didn't have time for whilst you put in those extra days work instead. Well hopefully you are in great shape both physically and mentally and really ready for the adventures that await you. Unfortunately many have deteriorated with all manner of concerns, bad backs, varicose veins, gout, you name it. The fact is that many by retirement will not have that same enthusiasm or simply cannot function at their optimal prime state due to time and good old wear and tear.

BALANCE...

Now i know people are living longer and in better shape at 70+ than ever before but why wait until retirement. That's why balance is needed, a healthy balance of work and play is a must because you cannot get those days back and when you finally think its time to do those things you've put aside for so long, you might not get a chance to. So just do it (where have i heard that?), get that keyboard out and play a tune, go climb those hills, learn a new language, photography, drawing, painting, running, ju-jitsu, chess, whatever, if it brings you joy and inspiration then crack on with it, because you never know when the grim reaper may pay a visit.

IS THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING MATHEMATICS?

DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER...

Wait, hold up, don't run away its only mathematics. I know the majority of the world find 'higher' math either too hard to contemplate or down right boring but stick with me here because i wasn't math's biggest fan either. In my early years at school i remember enjoying math's and had a real interest but somewhere near the beginning of secondary school that all changed. I think as i progressed i found math's slightly daunting and boring. I'd say this was a combination of bad curriculum (if you didn't 'get it' there wasn't much time for help) and lack of focus on my part as i often messed about in class with the other kid's. 

READY OR NOT HERE I COME...

Little did i know until a couple of years ago mathematics is literally everywhere and everything. Our minds are constantly performing mathematics in everything we do. We know a computer game can immerse us in another world (distraction but fun) with hours of enjoyment but at the core its all math's, binary code, 0's and 1's (think the matrix movies). The thing is most people don't contemplate the 'hidden' math's behind the game world they are fully immersed in and probably don't care. Yet care or not math is also 'hidden' all around us is in our waking reality too.

DON'T TELL FIB'S...

Fibonacci series. Stumbling upon Leonardo Fibonacci (goes by other names too) and his number series absolutely blew my mind. Everything 'clicked', math is literally at the core of everything. If you haven't heard of this and are interested there are some great explanations on youtube. Basically his number sequence starts with 0 + 1 = 1, then 1 + 1 = 2 so then you just continue to add the last two numbers together like this : 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, and so on. Now the fun part, this sequence of numbers are found throughout nature such as petals on flowers, the structure of pine cones, seeds of a sunflower, and pineapples to name a few. When this sequence is used to create a spiral using properties of the golden rectangle, again we find it in nature from the snail, nautilus shell, right through to the spirals of hurricanes and galaxies such as the milky way. I don't know about you but i find this fascinating as there are mathematical patterns recurring all around us, little and large, almost like we are in a program/hologram system similar to computer game worlds.

TIP OF THE ICEBERG...

This is an extremely small example which in my mind points more and more to the fact that mathematics is running the show and that we too must be made of mathematics. The more i look into mathematics the more i see (intuit) that math holds the answers to everything. I believe math has always been and always will be. If we kick a football and curl it around the wall and into the top corner its seen by many as a great goal, the precision, technique and perfect power resulted in the goal. However i know that although the kicker does not consciously work out the math, speed, power angles, their subconscious mind effortlessly performs the math's. Obviously in most cases this is the result of many hours of practice to get to that level (remember the 10,000 hours) in whatever sport or task it may be.

FOLLOW THE RABBIT...

How far does the rabbit hole go? Math is there for us to understand, math was not created by humans it was discovered and the more we internalize math the more we will unlock the answer to everything. Math is not physical so we need to be looking in the mental domain as well as patterns in our physical world. If anyone has any opinions or further reading relating to math's and the universe please leave a comment i'd love to deepen my knowledge on this subject. The good news (at least for me anyway) is mathematics is NOT boring, far from it, it explains the world we live in and is propelling us to greatness the more we understand and utilize it. I wanted to learn a new language, now iv'e found the language of everything.
