LAW OF ATTRACTION OR PERCEPTION?



THE GENIE LIKES HIS LAMP RUBBED...

Here's my take on the popular new age law of attraction. Now unless you had an extremely powerful mind, i do not think people are magically pulling their desires towards them like a magnetic mind magician but i do think focus and visualisation activate your mind/brain/subconscious to go to work on the goals you are focusing on if done regularly.

INSANE IN THE BRAIN...

There is a part of the brain called the reticular activating system (RAS) which basically acts like a filter and brings your attention to things of value and interest such as a threat. It is in your interest to know if a lion is nearby and would not do your survival chances any good if these kind of threats where filtered out. The good news is we can program our RAS. By using methods such as visualisation and affirmations over a sustained period of time lets just say a month, (there is no exact time limit) your goal will sink into your subconscious and this powerhouse will get to work on fulfilling your goal. This is why sometimes you think of something and it seems to pop up everywhere, its not that you have now attracted it, instead this is your mind and reticular activating system focusing in on that subject because you have shown interest in it whether good or bad. Imagine two people with different views on a subject such as one thinks the world is a horrible dangerous place and full of horrible dangerous people while the other thinks the world is a great place full of fun, adventure and happy people around every corner. Rationally we know that both exist but your RAS will point out more of what your main focus is.

DON'T WORRY...BE HAPPY...

So if your full of worry and anxiety at large social gatherings your going to be noticing all sorts of potential threats that for the most part are no threat at all while the other person may well be seeing fun things to do and opportunities to approach, talk and laugh with exciting new people. Now this same event could have a serial killer amongst the crowd or could be full of good, decent joyful people having a good time either way its how you have affirmed and even visualised over and over that will determine what your RAS will choose to focus on. Basically through your own programming you can hold yourself back through fear programming or change the program and go enjoy yourself. The serial killer will still be there and might pick you or might not but that depends on how their RAS is programmed and whether they want the happy confident go getter or the shy anxious fearful one. Keep smiling people, i used that as an extreme example, when your at your next social gathering try not to play spot the serial killer like some psychopathic version of wheres wally.

SYNCHRONICITY...

A while back i started looking at the time and seeing 11.11, 13.13 etc nearly everyday to a point where i was wondering what was going on. This then stopped for a while and then started up again a few months ago and has been happening sometimes daily and i was thinking what ever this is its weird but cool. Anyway just before i started this part on synchronicity i looked down at the time and it said 17:17, (i swear i'm not bullshitting here even though that sounds very far fetched) which stopped me in my tracks for a minute. I'm not fully sure why this is happening so often but i am trying to work out what this is about, (i'm not a clock watcher) it could be my subconscious and or my reticular activating system making me look at the right time. When it happens i acknowledge it for whatever it is but i'm not sure if because i gave it special attention that is why it happens all the time. Either way something makes me continuously see these numbers aligning often when i am thinking deeply about something. If anyone has had similar experiences or just have their own opinions on the subject write them in the comments box, id love to hear further on this. Thanks.

LIFE IS SHORT

22,265...

A human lifetime is extremely short in the grand scheme of an entire (infinite?) universe. I often think about how short life is to spur me on if i feel slightly off track. As in the above number 22,265 i decided to do a quick calculation which was after my birthday this year, how many days have i got until im a hundred years old?. Now that doesn't seem a very long time to me when put into days plus the highly likely fact i might not get anywhere near 100 years old. So, not knowing how long we have left in this lifetime we should really concentrate on living a good life with good people, more laughter, more fun and more doing whatever makes us feel good. I'm not being morbid i'm being realistic, old death and his scythe will come knocking.

WORK HARD, BREAK HARD...

There's a saying that if we work really hard then we can 'break' (rest and play) hard. I understand working hard at something you enjoy but the majority of us are going to jobs that don't inspire us and practically turn us into mindless zombies where we all fantasize about our next holiday or just counting down the hours and minutes so we can escape the mental 'prison' we feel trapped in. Fast forward years later and you realize you've been working hard at a job(s) where the harder you worked you only profited the company bosses while you might be lucky to get a tiny pay rise that barely covers the costs of inflation. I've seen so many people put in crazy weekly overtime hours for the good of the company, year upon year only to be laid off in what seems to me based entirely on not constantly kissing the managements backside. You see we are social creatures on a scale of introverted to extroverted personalities with job environments that better suit certain individuals over others.

HOORAY RETIREMENT = PLAYTIME...?

Shouldn't this be the case, all those years spent working, you may have a house paid off now, savings tucked away or neither, either way, now is supposed to be your time where you can pick up those old hobbies that you just didn't have time for whilst you put in those extra days work instead. Well hopefully you are in great shape both physically and mentally and really ready for the adventures that await you. Unfortunately many have deteriorated with all manner of concerns, bad backs, varicose veins, gout, you name it. The fact is that many by retirement will not have that same enthusiasm or simply cannot function at their optimal prime state due to time and good old wear and tear.

BALANCE...

Now i know people are living longer and in better shape at 70+ than ever before but why wait until retirement. That's why balance is needed, a healthy balance of work and play is a must because you cannot get those days back and when you finally think its time to do those things you've put aside for so long, you might not get a chance to. So just do it (where have i heard that?), get that keyboard out and play a tune, go climb those hills, learn a new language, photography, drawing, painting, running, ju-jitsu, chess, whatever, if it brings you joy and inspiration then crack on with it, because you never know when the grim reaper may pay a visit.

IS THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING MATHEMATICS?

DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER...

Wait, hold up, don't run away its only mathematics. I know the majority of the world find 'higher' math either too hard to contemplate or down right boring but stick with me here because i wasn't math's biggest fan either. In my early years at school i remember enjoying math's and had a real interest but somewhere near the beginning of secondary school that all changed. I think as i progressed i found math's slightly daunting and boring. I'd say this was a combination of bad curriculum (if you didn't 'get it' there wasn't much time for help) and lack of focus on my part as i often messed about in class with the other kid's. 

READY OR NOT HERE I COME...

Little did i know until a couple of years ago mathematics is literally everywhere and everything. Our minds are constantly performing mathematics in everything we do. We know a computer game can immerse us in another world (distraction but fun) with hours of enjoyment but at the core its all math's, binary code, 0's and 1's (think the matrix movies). The thing is most people don't contemplate the 'hidden' math's behind the game world they are fully immersed in and probably don't care. Yet care or not math is also 'hidden' all around us is in our waking reality too.

DON'T TELL FIB'S...

Fibonacci series. Stumbling upon Leonardo Fibonacci (goes by other names too) and his number series absolutely blew my mind. Everything 'clicked', math is literally at the core of everything. If you haven't heard of this and are interested there are some great explanations on youtube. Basically his number sequence starts with 0 + 1 = 1, then 1 + 1 = 2 so then you just continue to add the last two numbers together like this : 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, and so on. Now the fun part, this sequence of numbers are found throughout nature such as petals on flowers, the structure of pine cones, seeds of a sunflower, and pineapples to name a few. When this sequence is used to create a spiral using properties of the golden rectangle, again we find it in nature from the snail, nautilus shell, right through to the spirals of hurricanes and galaxies such as the milky way. I don't know about you but i find this fascinating as there are mathematical patterns recurring all around us, little and large, almost like we are in a program/hologram system similar to computer game worlds.

TIP OF THE ICEBERG...

This is an extremely small example which in my mind points more and more to the fact that mathematics is running the show and that we too must be made of mathematics. The more i look into mathematics the more i see (intuit) that math holds the answers to everything. I believe math has always been and always will be. If we kick a football and curl it around the wall and into the top corner its seen by many as a great goal, the precision, technique and perfect power resulted in the goal. However i know that although the kicker does not consciously work out the math, speed, power angles, their subconscious mind effortlessly performs the math's. Obviously in most cases this is the result of many hours of practice to get to that level (remember the 10,000 hours) in whatever sport or task it may be.

FOLLOW THE RABBIT...

How far does the rabbit hole go? Math is there for us to understand, math was not created by humans it was discovered and the more we internalize math the more we will unlock the answer to everything. Math is not physical so we need to be looking in the mental domain as well as patterns in our physical world. If anyone has any opinions or further reading relating to math's and the universe please leave a comment i'd love to deepen my knowledge on this subject. The good news (at least for me anyway) is mathematics is NOT boring, far from it, it explains the world we live in and is propelling us to greatness the more we understand and utilize it. I wanted to learn a new language, now iv'e found the language of everything.

FOCUS IS THE KEY

Distractions....

Today we are living in great times where our technology allows us to connect with others and receive information with a simple search or phone call. Practically any subject that interests you is freely available and open for further discussions with diverse personalities from all around the world. This opens up a creative playground where our talents and voices can be shared effortlessly, receive praise and helpful guidance or criticism (apart from the trolls). So if there is something you want to share with the world or like minded people there really is no excuse why you haven't done so.

So Far So Good....

Here is the problem, FOCUS. All the greatness i mentioned about technology is also the biggest contribution as to the reasons why you haven't shared your talents with the world (apart from plain laziness) Come on be honest, raise your hand if you have ever been about to do something but a 'quick' check on facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube, porn, whatever it may be has distracted you and sent you off in a total different direction? (i'm sure its most of us). Now social media cannot be blamed for our lack of focus, that's our fault, we need to exercise our will power to stay focused on our goals at those times when we have made time to be productive and creative. Social media is a great tool to connect with like minded individuals, receive further knowledge and understanding on our chosen subjects and yes to chill out. Just realize when you've strayed off track and focus back on your task.

Tick Tock....

Time is a funny thing. When we're having fun an hour can seem like 10 minutes, when we're bored, stressed or in a bad situation an hour can feel like forever. Its all perspective and when you stop and really think about our time left in this life time (it could be tomorrow, lets hope not), how many hours we waste away on meaningless 'time wasters' when we could be working at what we love and perhaps one day share it with the world. What have you got to lose? Do not fear failure, it is better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all. You can not fail anyway, that's the beauty when you do what you love. Your passion is where your greatest energy flows, when your doing it for you or others and not money then you pour creativity, excitement and joy into your work and the world will see that.

FIND YOUR PASSION

Fire inside...

We've all heard that to be happy it helps to do what you love, follow your passion and you'll be happy. Unfortunately many of us are stuck in a job we don't like that doesn't fill us with enthusiasm or joy but hey we have to pay the bills. On top of all this we are balancing our remaining time between general chores, friends, family and other forms of entertainment seemingly leaving us with no time for our passions. 

Excuses excuses...

The truth is most of us can easily find time but make excuses not to. I have been putting off writing this blog for years. All kinds of self doubt creeps in with reasons to do it another day, or there's just not enough time. Just make a start, that's the hardest part. Once you begin and decide upon your hobby/craft/passion, a momentum quickly builds as you are deeply engaged in an activity that makes you feel alive, in the zone/flow state where time seems to disappear as you are fully focused on your favourite task.

Mind over money...

Many people think about the money side and yes there are plenty who have manged to use their chosen passion as a career path which is great. Unfortunately most of us are not encouraged in our early years to excel at the subjects we love and therefor further develop our skills due to how our current education system works. This often results in being told by teachers, family and friends that you need to focus on getting a job that's 'realistic' and that your not going to make it as an artist, musician or whatever may be your passion. This is where the money doesn't matter, sure you'll need a job to pay bills but in your spare time nothing is stopping you from knuckling down and improving your skills. Your goal should be to put in the 'work' (or 10,000 hours as the popular saying goes) and become so good at your craft to the point of expertise. Now its quite possible the money will come too because you are in the small percentile who are exceptional at this chosen path thus greater than most competition.

Death is guaranteed...

Now i know humans seem to shy away from any thoughts of death and prefer to pretend that they are infinite (which we are but not physically). Facts are facts and each one of our physical bodies will perish which is why you should think about death and often. My reasoning hear is by reminding ourselves that death will come (possibly sooner than we think) should be a kick up the rear end to stop worrying so much and get on with those things you enjoy and excel at. Time is fleeting and you don't want to be that 'death bed one' full of doubts and what if's. When you think of death it puts things back into perspective and you can take the bull by the horns (i take no responsibility for anybody that actually does take a bull by the horns) and crack on with life. Treat others well, don't let others treat you badly and do those things you enjoy. Life can be hard but remember that whatever life throws your way you have a conscious choice of how to react mentally and emotionally and to choose not to allow situations, obstacles and others to control your responses.

HOLD THAT THOUGHT

I Was Just Thinking That....

What is a thought? We have all sorts of thoughts throughout the day but what are they? We cannot see them with our physical eyes, we cannot grab hold of them with our hands yet they are real and govern everything we do in our lives whether its deciding what clothes to wear, asking your boss for a pay rise or choosing to upload a picture on facebook of your poor attempt at a roast dinner only to then sit depressed over the lack of 'likes' received, (you know who you are people). We have conscious thoughts and unconscious thoughts running all day unless we sleep of course. During the day our unconscious mind is performing many complex activities without our conscious awareness. Take the daily act of walking, for most people this is a simple process but you do not think i need to put my right foot forward followed by my left all the while remembering to breath, make sure your heart is still pumping blood through your veins, and interpret the sounds you hear and the visuals you see. If this was the case we would not be able to function let alone concentrate and calculate (that most fundamental question on everybody's mind) how much wood a woodchuck would chuck IF a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Sweet Dreams Are Made of These....

Now here is something to contemplate. Thoughts directed in our waking lives can be powerful depending on what your putting your mind to like grandmaster chess players or mathematicians but think about our minds power when asleep. Whilst asleep our thoughts/minds create whole worlds seemingly effortlessly which we can explore. Most of our dreams are uncontrolled and we go along for the ride but we can practice to access this inner world and become gods of our own creations via lucid dreaming and further still out of body experiences/astral projection. When we dream our bodies are in paralysis which is a good thing as we do not want our physical bodies enacting our dream content. So, it would seem when asleep our thoughts can create anything we choose but in the physical they do not have such power. Naturally there are more advanced powerful minds that can influence and will more than others (not quite to the level of Neo in the Matrix...yet) especially those that focus on the inner workings of the mind. We need more deep thinkers, mathematicians and anyone who thinks uploading roast dinner pics to facebook in need of praise from others is slightly retarded.

Red Pill, Blue Pill.....or the Sugar Pill?

How is it that a patient could be given a simple sugar pill in place of medication yet still receive benefits close to and even surpassing that of the medication millions of people take daily full of unwanted side effects as an added bonus? Well the placebo effect has been observed and recorded for a long time now and it would seem that its effects are pretty obvious and real especially to the pharmaceutical companies who would much like to continue making money off all the sick puppies out there. Now don't get me wrong im not fully against medication, if a migraine sufferer who is practically incapacitated can gulp down a pill and relieve themselves shortly after then that's great but who's getting to the actual causes of these problems. Seems to me the current state is if such and such comes back take more medication, rinse and repeat.
Either way we look at this it shows the power of the mind and its effects on the body/matter and that our conscious minds are limited to the level of information that our 'unconscious' or 'super mind' has access to. Perhaps this all ties in with the fact that the unconscious mind can be programmed to take on tasks for us such as in self-hypnosis/autosuggestion and the Placebo effect. Our scientists need to be focusing more on minds, consciousness and the power of our thoughts instead of trying to find the answers in matter.
